About 4,500 Entergy customers in the Carrollton area lost power amid near-freezing temperatures Friday morning, but company officials said power was expected to begin returning in the morning.

Entergy maps show 4,500 customers in east Carrollton, west Carrollton and the Riverbend without power starting between 3 and 4 a.m.

Company officials said the power loss was caused when a possum got into a substation, according to our partners at WWL-TV. Three schools in the area — Sophie B. Wright, Benjamin Banneker and Joan of Arc Catholic School — are all closed Friday because of the outage, WWL reports.
