Due to inclement weather, the December 14th NOLA FOR LIFE Day has been rescheduled to January 2014.

On January, 11, 2014, residents are invited to join Mayor Mitch Landrieu in partnership with District B Councilmember LaToya Cantrell in and around A.L. Davis Playground in the Central City neighborhood for the sixth NOLA FOR LIFE DAY.

In January, the revitalization effort will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the A.L. Davis Playground located at 2600 LaSalle Street.

Volunteer activities will include improvements to the area surrounding A.L. Davis Playground.

Project activities will include: installation of energy efficient light bulbs with Green Light New Orleans and smoke detectors with the New Orleans Fire Department, tree planting and landscaping with Hike for KaTREEna, painting, bench building and other activities inside the park with Rebuilding Together New Orleans.

In advance of NOLA FOR LIFE Day, city departments and agencies including NOLA 311, Department of Public Works, Code Enforcement & Hearings Bureau, NOPD (Quality of Life officers), Sanitation, NORA, NORDC, Public Works, Parks & Parkways, Neighborhood Engagement Office, Mosquito, Rodent & Termite Control Board, and Sewerage and Water Board are assessing public safety enhancements within the neighborhood surrounding the playground.

During the event, the City will host a resource fair at the park with representatives from various City and partner agencies available to share and discuss beneficial information with the public.

NOLA FOR LIFE Day will conclude with a celebration featuring food and music from DJ Wild Wayne.

Launched in May 2012, NOLA FOR LIFE is New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s comprehensive murder reduction strategy to tackle the city’s historically high murder rate. Recognizing that law enforcement alone cannot solve the murder problem, NOLA FOR LIFE takes a holistic approach to get to the root of the problem, and implements initiatives in five main categories: Stop the Shooting, Invest in Prevention, Promote Jobs and Opportunity, Strengthen the NOPD and Get Involved and Rebuild Neighborhoods.
