A crash involving a school bus at Washington and South Claiborne avenues Wednesday evening sent four students to the hospital as a precaution, as well as two other people who were in the other vehicle, New Orleans police said.

The crash took place around 4:15 p.m. The injuries to the two people in the overturned vehicle did not appear to be life threatening, said NOPD Officer Frank Robertson III.

One of the drivers involved will be ticked for running a traffic life, Robertson said.

I take this route to and from work everyday, and I can say with certainty that drivers are rarely careful about stopping properly, and pedestrians rarely look at ALL before crossing the street. It’s only a matter of time before we see another story about a pedestrian getting hit on this stretch of S Claiborne. Yes, drivers need to be more vigilant about people in the roads, but also people need to stop jaywalking (at a glacial pace, by the way) without even a casual glance at oncoming traffic.

I’m glad it seems like everyone is ok… Notice how NOLA is hasty to put traffic cameras on streets in affluent areas for “safety” (a.k.a. income) but not in a low-income area that has had multiple deaths in the last few years…. Right.
