Jose Galeas, 56, was arrested after he confessed to committing an aggravated assault with a firearm, according to Officer Frank Roberston, a departmental spokesman.
On Dec. 5 just before 4 p.m., the victim was traveling southbound on South Carrollton Avenue in the right lane, and as he passed through the South Claiborne Avenue intersection, he attempted to merge into the center lane, Robertson told Uptown Messenger in an email.
At that point, the perpetrator pulled next to him on the driver’s side, lowered his passenger side window, pointed a black handgun at him and threatened to kill him, according to Robertson.
The victim said he slowed down, got behind the perpetrator’s vehicle and copied his license plate, Robertson added.Second District Detectives, who cover the Uptown and Audubon areas, conducted an investigation which led to Galeas’ arrest, the officer said.
A .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun was found during a search warrant executed at Galeas’ home, police said.
