Israeli and New Orleans experts are convening this week to discuss topics relating to disaster preparation and response, culminating in lectures open to the public Tuesday evening at Ochsner Medical Center and Wednesday evening at Tulane University.
Dr. Arnon Afek will speak on “Ethical Dilemmas in Disaster” this evening (Tuesday, Dec. 3) at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson, and Dr. Avi Rivkind will address “Lessons Learned from Disaster” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Lavin-Bernick Center at Tulane. ISRAEL AND NEW ORLEANS EMERGENCY EXPERTS TO COLLABORATE DURING WEEKLONG PREPAREDNESS SYMPOSIUM
The Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans, in coordination with Jones Walker LLP, Acadian Ambulance Service, Ochsner Health System, Touro Infirmary, Children’s Hospital, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and Tulane University Medical Center, is thrilled to bring together crisis management experts and emergency medical responders from New Orleans and Israel to share best-practices and lessons learned over the course of this week. From December 2-6, 2013, professionals from both countries will meet to hold workshops, site visits, and panels; topics include operational readiness, hospital evacuation, temporary medical facilities, pandemics, terrorist response and hazmat containment.
The Israeli delegation includes Avi Rivkind, best known as the doctor who mentored the trauma team on blast injury treatment/triage at Massachusetts General Hospital before the Boston Marathon bombing.
