A 61-year-old man was killed Monday evening when he was hit by a car while he was trying to walk across South Claiborne Avenue, New Orleans police said.
The man was trying to cross South Claiborne on foot near General Taylor Street at 7:19 p.m. when a red Chevrolet Impala hit him, said NOPD Officer Garry Flot, a departmental spokesman. The victim died on the scene, but the 17-year-old woman driving the Impala was uninjured, Flot said.
No citations have been issued in the case, Flot said, but the investigation is continuing.
The downtown-bound lanes of South Claiborne were closed Monday evening between Napoleon Avenue and Amelia Street so the incident could be investigated. The street reopened around 10:30 p.m.
