A man was wounded in a shooting Thursday evening on Josephine Street in the River Garden development, New Orleans police said, in the second outbreak of gunfire in a month’s time within sight of the Walmart shopping center.

The 26-year-old victim was standing in front of a home in the 500 block of Josephine Street (about a block from Jackson and Tchoupitoulas) shortly before 7 p.m. when two gunmen rode up on recreational vehicles that may have been four-wheelers, said Officer Frank Robertson III, a NOPD spokesman. They opened fire, and he was hit in the body several times, police said.

Officers were there within two minutes, Robertson said, and paramedics took the victim to the hospital where he was initially listed in critical condition. He died several hours later, police said.

No further details were immediately available, Robertson said. Homicide Detective Clinton Givens is leading the investigation, and anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 822-1111.

In late August, a man was shot to death in traffic in the 400 block of Felicity Street at the opposite edge of the shopping center.

  1. HRI has no plans for keeping the peace in that neighborhood. Anything goes as long as the checks keep coming in

  2. I agree with catindahood. HRI, Kabacoff, Abbenette could care less as long as the government checks are rolling in
