New Orleans police have released a video that shows a couple allegedly trying to break into cars parked just off St. Charles Avenue, and, in a separate incident, photos of a skateboarder suspected of spray-painting graffiti on a Central City store.
In the auto-burglary case, the video shows a man with dreadlocks acting as a lookout while a woman tries the door handles of vehicles parked in the 1700 block of Amelia Street, according to the report. Afterward, the suspects made entry into a black Ford F150 and stole a number of items that were later found nearby, authorities said. The video was recorded around noon Aug. 13, but investigators believe the suspects may be responsible for up to a half-dozen other recent incidents in the area, and likely live nearby, the report states. In the graffiti incident, the store in the 2700 block of LaSalle Street (across from A.L. Davis Park) was found Wednesday morning to have been tagged with orange and white spray-paint, said Lt. Frank Young of the NOPD Sixth District. Surveillance video from the area shows two teens on skateboards riding up and quickly spray-painting the building around 3:25 a.m., Young said.
Police have released images of one of the suspects. Based on his appearance and the grafitti tags involved, it does not appear to be the same people who were tagging businesses in the Mid-City area, Young said.
Anyone who can identify the suspects in either case is urged to call the NOPD Sixth District at 658-6060 or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111.
