NOPD Second District Officer Rodney Thomas — who was killed last month in a hit-and-run crash on the interstate — had previously suffered heavy damage to his house during the flooding after Hurricane Katrina. Previously trained as an electrician, Thomas was doing all the renovations himself — work that his family does not know how they can finish with him gone, said Second District Commander Paul Noel.

“Not only was Rodney the sole breadwinner for his family, but now they have a house that’s unfinished,” Noel said.

Helping secure the house is only one of the ways that the Thomas family will benefit from a concert fundraiser at Tipitina’s on Saturday, Noel said. Officers in the Second District, where Thomas served, are especially hoping for a strong turnout from the community, Noel said.

“Rodney went to work and he never came home,” Noel said. “It’s also a show of support to all of the Second District officers who leave their families every day and night to go to work, and they don’t know if they’re going to come home.”

The benefit starts at 6:30 p.m. at Tipitina’s. For details, see information from the event flyer below:
