A 51-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday night on General Ogden Street in Hollygrove, authorities said.

The victim was found on the General Ogden Street sidewalk near Olive Street around 8:50 p.m. after police were called to the area for reports of gunshots, said NOPD Officer Garry Flot. He had a gunshot wound to the face, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Flot said.

One man said the victim was well known for working on people’s cars in front of his home. He had just seen the man the day before, he said, and he didn’t appear to be in any trouble: “He was fine,” the neighbor said.

Several neighbors noted that another man had been killed in mid-December just a few feet away on Olive Street. One woman said she had recently moved to the block from Kenner with her daughters, but now wants to leave Louisiana altogether.

“I just moved here six months ago, and I’m sorry I did,” the woman said. “This is the second murder we’ve seen since living over here.”

As the investigation proceeded, most of the neighbors on Olive Street watched in relative silence, speaking only in low tones.

“I don’t come outside unless I see flashing lights, to see what’s going on,” one woman said. “I just be amazed at the foolishness going on.”
