A car fleeing a shootout sped onto South Claiborne Avenue and crashed into a utility pole early Monday evening, leaving two of its occupants with gunshot wounds and two others with injuries from the crash, authorities said.

The shooting took place shortly after 6 p.m., when a truck pulled up and opened fire on a blue four-door car at Washington and South Claiborne, said Officer Hilal Williams, a NOPD spokeswoman. The car accelerated, then crashed into a light pole, and when police arrived they found one man shot to the leg, one shot to the hand, and two with injuries from the crash, Williams said.

None of the injuries appeared life threatening, Williams said.
