For the 26th year, The New Orleans School of GlassWorks & Printmaking Studio offers a summer workshop for young adults. This hands-on glassblowing, metal sculpture, scientific glass torch-working, stained glass, copper enameling, paper engineering, printmaking and book-binding. Students gain artistic, technical knowledge and oral competency in all studios offered.
Our Young Adult Program consists of a truly unique, one-of-a-kind curriculum that offers a hands-on experience in a variety of working studios. Young artists, ages 9 to 17, learn a wide array of innovative techniques and skills. Students utilize a combination of the various working artist studios. Each weekly and yearly returning student will advance to a higher skill level. No two weeks are alike for returning students, giving them carefully guided advancement to new designs.
Our Summer Art Workshop begins Monday, June 3rd – June 21st, with a 3-week session. This session includes full instruction in glassblowing as well as metal sculpture, stained glass, illuminated sculpture, glass torchworking & printmaking. Each student designs and executes projects that take 3 weeks to complete. With the close guidance of master faculty, multimedia projects are encouraged.
During the first week in June, the International Paperweight Association and will offer hands-on demonstrations to the students in the glassblowing and torchworking studios.
AFTER THE THREE-WEEK SESSION ENDS, weekly sessions start on Monday, June 24th and continue through Friday, August 16th. STUDENTS CAN SIGN UP FOR ONE OR MORE WEEKS (during the weekly sessions). They do not have to be consecutive weeks. Studios included in the weekly sessions are: metal sculpture, glass torchworking, stained glass, illuminated sculpture, copper enameling and printmaking. Each week, students advance forward in exploring new design projects.
Upon completion of the summer workshop, young adults are encouraged to continue advanced study in one or more studios in our YOUNG ADULT PROGRAM DURING WINTER HOLIDAY BREAK or on Saturdays as their school schedule permits.
