A man who showed up at the hospital shortly after 9 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the leg was initially reported to have been shot near the busy corner of Magazine and Washington. Business employees in the area, however, said that night they did not hear or see any signs of a shooting.
An initial police report released Saturday morning now shows a shooting incident with the same item number as having taken place in the 2700 block of Second Street, where police had been dispatched to calls of a gunshot Friday evening. The time of the incident is now recorded as just before 8 p.m., and the report states that the victim was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle after being hit in the hip by gunfire from an unknown assailant.
Crime maps also show the same shooting item on Second Street, but show no incidents Friday near Magazine and Washington.
Police officials confirmed that the location of the incident was determined to be on Second Street, but no further details were immediately available.
Last summer, a shooting victim who brought himself to the hospital told police he was shot in a gun battle at the busy corner of Magazine and Louisiana, but police could find no evidence of a shooting there and concluded that he had been shot elsewhere.
