A 22-year-old woman on Bourbon Street got into what she thought was taxi but was then raped by the driver and dropped off in Central City, and police are now seeking the public’s help in finding him.
The woman separated from her friends on Bourbon Street around 2:30 a.m. Saturday and flagged down what she thought was a taxi nearby, according to a NOPD news release. The driver agreed to take her to her hotel, but instead took her to an unknown location, pulled a gun and raped her, then took her to Simon Bolivar and Calliope and told her to get out of the car, the release states.
The man was described as a thin, clean-shaven, dark-skinned black man in his late 20s with a low cropped hairstyle, wearing a khaki-colored fisherman’s hat and a light-blue polo shirt. His vehicle was a silver, two-door older-model car, the report states.
The lead investigator is Detective Vernon Hayes, who can be reached at 658-5523. Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,500.
