A dollar store on Earhart Boulevard was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday morning, authorities said, and a man was shot several times in the Dixon area between Hollygrove and Mid-City.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday, a man carrying a semi-automatic handgun entered the Dollar General in the 8200 block of Earhart (just off Carrollton Avenue) and demanded money from the safe, according to the initial police report. He then took off on foot with the cash, the report states.

Shortly before 11 a.m., a 28-year-old man was shot several times to the face and body near the intersection of Hollygrove and Marks streets in the Dixon neighborhood, according to the initial police report.

  1. Bad economics in the poverty areas will lead to more robberies. Our city is the tale of the great divide. Those with the resources must give a lilttle more in order for us to succeed.
