The student was getting out of his car in front of his home in the 7500 block of Plum Street around 8:45 p.m. when a young man came running up from the corner, grabbed him by the neck with one hand and pulled out a gun with the other, demanding his belongings, the victim said afterward. The gunman saw his phone and demanded that, then demanded his wallet, then ran off on Hillary Street toward South Claiborne, said the victim, who is not being identified by Uptown Messenger.
Marks from the attack were still visible on the victim’s neck, but he said he was not otherwise hurt. The gunman was wearing a gray sweatshirt, gray pants and black shoes, and had a bandana or some kind of mask covering his face, the victim said.
“He looked scared, like he didn’t want to do it. He was obviously a young guy. He sounded young,” said the victim, a native New Orleanian who just moved to central Carrollton in August. “He didn’t put his finger on the trigger; he kept it on the side. I don’t think he wanted to shoot me. I just gave him what he wanted, and he left.”
Anyone with private surveillance cameras on the street in the area around Hillary between Plum and Claiborne is asked to review their footage for possible suspects, and anyone with information should call NOPD Second District detectives at 658-6020. To leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward, call CrimeStoppers at 822-1111.
