About a half hour after the Martin Luther King Day parade passed, a occupants of a car passing Martin Luther King Boulevard and LaSalle Street opened fire, wounding five teens at a corner store there, according to reports from our partners at WWL-TV. Residents were dismayed by the callous nature of the shooting on a day dedicated to peace efforts, but said it was symptomatic of the apathy of those regularly involved in street violence, and NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas lamented that “young men do not heed the words of Dr. Martin Luther King,” according to a report by Tania Dall of WWL-TV:
