Berlin’s Jacques Thibaud String Trio and flutist Eugenia Zukerman will perform works by Beethoven and Francaix, Mozart and Schubert at Tulane University in a Wednesday performance (Dec. 12) hosted by the New Orleans Friends of Music.

The 58th chamber music season of the New Orleans Friends of Music continues on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 with a performance by Berlin’s Jacques Thibaud Trio and flutist Eugenia Zukerman. The concert, at Tulane University’s Dixon Hall, begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $25 (free for Tulane students).

A five-concert subscription for the remainder of the season is currently available for $100, a 20% discount over single-ticket prices. Tickets are sold at the door or in advance at www.friendsofmusic.org or (504) 895-0690. A free lecture by Dr. John Joyce of the Newcomb Department of Music faculty will be offered at 7 p.m.

The Jacques Thibaud String Trio, founded in Berlin 1994, maintains an active international touring schedule, including stints in Europe, North America, and Japan. The Trio, which consists of violinist Burkhard Maiss, violist Hannah Strijbos, and cellist Bogdan Jianu, is known for their spontaneous sound and their youthful energy. Renowned flutist Eugenia Zukerman will join the Trio for several selections on the New Orleans concert. Ms. Zukerman’s career has brought her before audiences around the world as a symphonic soloist, chamber musician, and recitalist. Her many distinguished musical collaborators have included Emmanuel Ax, Yo-Yo Ma, and James Galway. She also works as an arts administrator, author, educator, and music journalist and is well known for her many years as arts correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning.

The December 12 Friends of Music concert program includes string trios by Beethoven and Francaix, Mozart and Schubert flute quartets, and a selection from C.P.E. Bach. In addition, the performers will present a masterclass at NOCCA (New Orleans Center for Creative Arts) on Tuesday, December 11 at 1:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, with a special invitation to flute and string students. NEW ORLEANS FRIENDS OF MUSIC
The 2012-2013 Friends of Music season includes a wide variety of outstanding chamber music performers, including returning appearances by Bach specialist Simone Dinnerstein and the Emerson Quartet as well as local debuts by the Venice Baroque Orchestra, Jerusalem Quartet, and Imani Wind Quintet. New Orleans Friends of Music is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the performance and appreciation of fine chamber music. Annual programming includes a mainstage concert season presented by the Friends of Music and Tulane University, a series of masterclasses by visiting artists, and a family concert.
