Ongoing repairs to a 48-inch water main will keep the intersection of South Claiborne and Nashville avenues blocked Tuesday, but voters will be able to access Eleanor McMain High School from Willow Street, officials said Monday afternoon.

The Sewerage & Water Board had hoped to complete the work by Monday afternoon, leaving the school and the multiple precincts that cast ballots there undisturbed on Election Day, agency spokesman Robert Jackson said Monday morning.

With more work left to do, Jackson said Monday afternoon that the intersection at Claiborne and Nashville will have to remain closed. Voters are encouraged to approach McMain from Willow Street, and much of Nashville leading up to the entrance to McMain will be open to them, Jackson said.

After voting, motorists will need to turn around and leave via Willow Street as well, he said.
