The Freret Neighborhood Center, the organizing force behind many of the anti-crime, anti-blight and community-building efforts in the Freret and Milan neighborhood, is holding a benefit party from 6 to 10 p.m. today (June 25) to raise money for field trips, food and art supplies for their summer camp for area kids.
From the invitation:
Kimberly and I would like to invite you to our Summer Camp Fundraising Party this Saturday, June 25 from 6pm to 10pm at my house, 4636 S. Saratoga Street! Suggested $10 donation for food/drink/entertainment – PLUS some exciting raffles from JW Massage, Dat Dog, Crescent City Comic, Taqueax Loqueax, Houmas House Plantation and more! Bring your cash, good will, and dance shoes for vinyl spins from DJ Brian Boyles and DJ Justin Thomas of Handsome Willie’s – and live jazz from Mark LaMaire & Friends.
Don’t forget – even if you can’t make it to the Fundraising Party, you can still donate cash or goods to the Summer Camp 2011! Please consider making a financial contribution to make this year’s program the “Best Summer Camp Ever!”
The Freret Neighborhood Center’s 2011 “Outer Space/Inner Space: Creating My Space” uses crafts, physical expression, computer-based learning, and outdoor activities to explore self, home, neighborhood, and the universe. Our camp is an affordable, fun, and safe option for 20 children from the Freret/Milan area ages 7 to 12 who otherwise have few options for summer education and team-building activities.
Thanks to a grant from United Way and the Emeril Lagasse Foundation through the Unified Summer Grants Collaborative, and the ongoing financial support of Neighborhood Housing Services, we are able to pay for most of our 3-week summer enrichment program. But we still need money to offset the costs of field trips, food, and art supplies. Contributions will go a long way to helping us meet our goal of raising an additional $3000!
