A Tulane student stole a car and crashed it into eight other vehicles early Friday morning before he was arrested, police said.
Ian Driskill, 21, stole the car in the 900 block of Audubon, then left a trail of collisions before officers caught him, said Sgt. Marc Amos of the NOPD Second District property-crimes division.
“He was apprehended because I believe the car he was in was reduced to rubble,” Amos said.
Driskill appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time, Amos said. He was also injured in the crash spree, Amos said, and had to be treated at the hospital before being taken to jail, where records show he was booked about 7:40 a.m.
Driskill is charged with auto theft, hit-and-run driving, reckless operation, driving while intoxicated, possession of chlorazepate (an anti-anxiety and muscle-relaxing drug usually marketed as Tranxene), possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
No booking photo of Driskill has been posted at the Sheriff’s Office website.
